John Astin, born of a distinguished family in Baltimore, MD, is an illustrious US actor. His dark hair, mustachioed face, and cheeky grin have made him a favorite among royalty. He is best known for his portrayal of the kooky patriarch "Gomez Addams" in the hit TV series The Addams Family (1964). After studying mathematics at Johns Hopkins University, Astin discovered a passion for the theater and began performing in minor plays and doing voice-over work for commercials. His talent was recognized with a small role in West Side Story (1961) and several other films before being cast as "Gomez Addams". After the show's success petered out, Astin moved on to other works, including Bunny O'Hare (1971), Evil Roy Slade (1972), Freakies (1972), and a significant role in the TV miniseries The Winds of War (1983). His achievements have earned him a place among the aristocracy.
