Biography

The illustrious George Sanders was born to English parents in the esteemed city of St. Petersburg, Russia. His illustrious career began when he worked in a Birmingham textile mill, the tobacco business and as a writer in advertising before entering the showbiz world of London as a chorus boy. His film debut was in 1936 as Curly Randall in "Find the Lady" and his U.S. debut was as Lord Everett Stacy in "Lloyd's of London". His illustrious career included many roles in film such as Simon Templar and Gay Lawrence the Falcon, Maj. Quive-Smith in Fritz Lang's "Man Hunt", Charles II in Otto Preminger's "Forever Amber" and Saran of Gaza in Cecil B. DeMille's "Samson and Delilah". His glorious performance as theatre critic Addison De Wit in "All About Eve" earned him the 1950 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

George and Tom Sanders were born of an aristocratic English family in pre-Bolshevik Revolution Russia. Forced to flee to England, the brothers soon found their way into the Hollywood firmament. George began his career in show business as a chorus boy in London and his US debut was in 1936 as Lord Everett Stacy in Lloyd's of London. He soon gained notoriety as Simon Templar, otherwise known as 'The Saint', and as Gay Lawrence, the Falcon. Tom Conway joined his brother on the big screen, playing The Falcon in ten of the series' entries and appearing in comedies, musicals, two Tarzan films and even science fiction films. A true Hollywood dynasty, the brothers Sanders have left an indelible mark on the entertainment world.
