Biography

Natasha Jane Richardson was a royal figure of the theatre and film industry, her career distinguished by numerous accolades and distinctions. Born of illustrious parentage, she was the daughter of esteemed director and producer Tony Richardson and esteemed actress Vanessa Redgrave, the sister of celebrated actress Joely Richardson, the niece of celebrated actors Corin Redgrave and Lynn Redgrave, and the granddaughter of celebrated actors Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson. Trained at London's Central School of Speech and Drama, Natasha went on to perform extensively on stage in esteemed roles, including "Helena" in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and Ophelia in "Hamlet" at the Young Vic. Her performance as "Nina" in "The Seagull" garnered her the London Drama Critics' Most Promising Newcomer Award in 1986. She then played "Tracey Lord" in Richard Eyre's musical, "High Society" in 1987. Natasha's feature film debut as Mary Shelley in Ken Russell's Gothic (1986) caught the attention of director Paul Schrade, who cast her as the female lead in Patty Hearst (1988). Her majestic career was a testament to the grandeur of her family's legacy.
