Family Tree

Shizuko Hoshi, Momo Yashima, and Makoto Iwamatsu, are a trifecta of Japanese-American royalty in the entertainment industry. Shizuko is known for her iconic roles in Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), M. Butterfly (1993) and M*A*S*H (1972) and was previously married to Mako. Momo was born on November 4, 1948 in New York City, USA and has become a renowned actress and director, known for her roles in Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Babylon 5 (1993) and M*A*S*H (1972). Makoto was born in Japan, living with his grandparents while his parents studied art in the United States, when Japan and the U.S. went to war in 1941. After the war, he joined his parents in New York and studied architecture, but soon discovered a talent for the theatre and abandoned his plans to become an architect. He was granted U.S. residency by Congress and entered the U.S. Army in the early 1950s. Together, this trio have created a lasting legacy in the entertainment world.
