Family Tree
The illustrious Kohner dynasty has been a prominent presence in Hollywood since the 1930s. Paul Kohner, born in Teplitz-Schoenau, Austria-Hungary, was a producer and production manager, renowned for his work in White Hell of Pitz Palu (1929), Love Me and the World Is Mine (1927) and Alas sobre El Chaco (1935). He married Lupita Tovar, born in Oaxaca, Mexico, who appeared in both silent Fox films and Universal's Spanish-language version of 1930's "The Cat Creeps" (La voluntad del muerto (1930)). They had two children, Susan and Pancho, who both went on to successful careers in their own right. Susan was Oscar-nominated for her performance in Universal's 1959 Imitation of Life (1959), while Pancho became a producer and director known for The Bridge in the Jungle (1970). Fredrick Kohner, Paul's brother, was also a writer and actor of note, best known for Gidget (1965) and The Lady and the Monster (1944). The dynasty is presently carried on by Paul's son, Christopher John Weitz, a renowned American filmmaker, producer and screenwriter, and Paul Weitz, a director, writer and producer.
